16-year-old Remaz from Sudan was among the 10,200 children supported by our Orphan Sponsorship Programme in 2022. The programme provides a regular stipend to families for children’s education, medical and other needs. Born with intellectual disabilities, Remaz also lives with epilepsy and paralysis. She lives with her two sisters and mother, Hanan, who has been the family’s sole breadwinner since her husband died 14 years ago. Though Hanan works hard as a laundress and cleaner, the little she earns is not enough to provide for her children. However the support she receives through Islamic Relief helps to cover the costs of Remaz’s medical care and has allowed her sisters to continue their education. Now receiving the medication she needs, Remaz’s epilepsy has stabilised.
