Disaster

The deadliest earthquake of the year hits the Paktika province in Afghanistan, destroying whole villages while residents sleep.

Impact

Where homes used to be there is now only rubble, and entire families have died. Survivors sleep outside, exposed to the wind and rain, and food and safe drinking water are in short supply. More than 1,000 people have lost their lives while some 6,000 people have been injured.

Response

Barmal district, one of the worst affected areas, receives little aid until Islamic Relief reaches the remote, mountainous location.
